In 1991, Guillaume took over with his wife Natacha, and they made the goal of one day vinifying all their wine in-house. Until now all of their grapes had been vinified at the local co-op. Six years later, this goal was finally achieved. Then Guillaume began melding newer viticultural techniques, such as intentional propagation of cover crops to promote hydric stress, leaf-pulling to increase sun exposure and pheolic ripeness, and green harvesting to reduce yields, with the traditional methods of his upbringing. Today, more than 60 years later, the few acres that Château Poitevin started with have grown into a 41-hectares vineyard. The average age of the vines range from 20 to 25 years old, with some of his grandfather's original vines from the 50's still producing delicious fruit. Guillaume combines his own winemaking knowledge and experience with a professional oenologist, Antoine Medeville of Château Le Pey, to deliver some of the most gorgeous Médoc reds that come out of the region.
In the fifties (1950) René POITEVIN acquired a vineyard of a few acres.
His son, Georges took over some years later. Both father and sons cultivating the vignes with passion and vinifying the wine in the local cooperative. It was Guillaume in 1991 who decided to vinify the wine in house and it took 6 years to achieve his dream. Today, the property is managed by Guillaume and Natacha, his wife. The vineyard POITEVIN is now 41 hectares on vines denominated A.O.C. Medoc with the cround dominated by small gravel. The vineyard is tended with respect to the environnment and with the minimum use of chemicals.
