The oldest reference to the Petrus estate comes in the early years of the 19th century, long after most Médoc estates sprang into life, and certainly lagging far behind those of nearby St Emilion, a number of which have Roman origins. The name itself refers to St Peter, who makes clear his allegiance to the estate by appearing on the label.
It was during the early 20th century, particularly between the two World Wars, that Petrus broke away from the rest of the pack.

The wine served at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947 turns out simply majestic, with a power and richness unmatched, some vintages can be kept more than fifty years.

Le 1993 de Pétrus, qui pourrait prétendre au titre du vin le plus concentré de l'année, arbore une robe soutenue de couleur pourpre-prune et exhale un doux nez de fruits noirs, d'épices orientales et de vanille. Enorme et d'une richesse formidable, il est encore puissant, dense et extraordinairement pur - un véritable tour de force en matière de vinification. Dans un millésime n'offrant que peu de vins réellement riches et longs, Pétrus se révèle magnifiquement doté et massif, avec une acidité moyenne et un niveau modéré de tannins
