The château remained in the family until 1998 when it was sold to Bernard Arnault, chairman of luxury goods group LVMH, and Belgian businessman Albert Frère, with Pierre Lurton installed as estate manager, a constellation similar to that of the group's other chief property Château d'Yquem.

D'un rubis grenat relativement foncé, un peu tuilé, il déploie un bouquet de bois de cèdre et de tabac doux, et se révèle onctueux, épanoui et rond en bouche, où il déploie une concentration satisfaisante et des tannins ronds. C'est un vin assez corsé, mais souple, qui n'a cependant pas la précision et la concentration que l'on attend d'un premier grand cru
