CHATEAU
The vineyard of Vieux Château Certan is certainly one of the oldest of Pomerol. It was probably founded during the sixteenth century. There are also traces of this vineyard during the eighteenth century, under the name of Sertan. He was for many years, considered as the best Pomerol’s wines. Then, after the Second World War, appeared the current stars of the appellation, such as Petrus…. The family Thienpont, actual owner of the field, bought the Vieux Chateau Certan during the XXth century.
Thanks to its excellent location, perfectly situated at the heart of the Pomerol plateau, on a vineyard in one piece, Vieux Chateau Certan has prestigious neighbors: Petrus, La Conseillante, l'Evangile...

After crushing, the fermentation takes place in a combination of large oak tanks and also in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.
Each grape variety is vinified separately for blending at a later time.
Fermentation tanks for about 3 weeks.
100% new oak barrels
18 to 22 months depending on the vintage.
Before bottling, the wines are fined (clarified) using egg whites
The wine is bottled without filtering.

The wine is bottled without filtering.
This is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the highest proportion of the last of these three for some time. The nose is perfumed, layered, dense, but fresh and minerally. Creamy, rounded, sweet and aromatic on the palate, with power behind this first layer. Very floral, pretty, with bright acidity and wonderful depth and texture. Polished, silky tannins, multi-layered and direct, this is fabulous wine.
